D vs. EE Boots Explained
In the world of cowboy boots, “D and “EE” represent boot widths. D represents an average width fitting narrow or standard width feet. EE-width boots are ½” wider than standard D-width boots.
EE vs. D Width: Which Is Right for Me?
If you know your feet are narrow or you have made it this far with no problem finding comfort in standard shoe width sizes, a D-width boot is likely right for you. If, on the other hand, you know you have wide feet or standard shoes and boot sizes have left you feeling cramped in the past, you may benefit from an EE-width boot. EE-width boots also provide more comfort for feet prone to swelling and discomfort.
To more accurately determine whether a D vs. EE boot width is right for you, measure the flat width across the ball of your foot. If your foot width measures between three to five inches, you’re likely a standard D-width.
If your foot’s width is measuring about 3.4 (smaller sizes) to 5.4 inches wide, it’s safe to assume an EE-width boot will fit you best. Or, if you’re somewhere in between a D and EE-width (otherwise known as an E-width), size up.
